作曲家・ピアニスト。神奈川県出身。東京芸術大学作曲科を首席で卒業し、同大学大学院修了。

在学中より自作自演による活動を始め、コンクール等にも自演により入選、入賞の経験を持つ。作曲家としても、東京芸術大学打楽器アンサンブルコンサートの学生公募作品の代表として選ばれ初演された他、アジアミュージックフォーラム韓国公演に日本代表として参加など、実績を積む。活動は、その後海外にも向けられ、ロンドンのセント・ジェームス教会（イギリス赤十字社主催）や、イタリアなどでも自作品によるコンサートを開き好評を得る。

これまでにＮＨＫ−ＦＭ「ＦＭリサイタル」、「名曲リサイタル」などに出演、自作品を演奏し、放送終了後、リスナーからの問い合わせが多数寄せられるなど、反響を呼んだ。

2001年4月、デビューＣＤ「ＳＯＬＯ」（アートユニオン／ART-3067）を発売。2002年10月には、同ＣＤの収録曲の楽譜集も出版。

2003年1月、女声合唱組曲「5つのソネット」の楽譜を出版し、同年3月、ムジークフェライン・ブラームスザールにてウィーンデビューを果たした。

2005年6月、日本を代表するクラシカル・サクソフォン奏者、須川展也からの委嘱により、「スロヴァキアン・ラプソディ〜サクソフォンとオーケストラのための〜」を作曲、スロヴァキア・フィルハーモニー管弦楽団の東京公演（サントリーホール）で初演され、好評を博した。同作品は、須川展也のアルバムにも収録され（金聖響指揮、東京交響楽団）、また2009年3月ブラティスラヴァにても演奏され満場の喝采を浴びた。

2006年自身初のオペラ作品「ヤマタノオロチ」を発表、日経紙上などで絶賛される。神奈川フィルの定期演奏会で新作「刻の里標石」（ときのマイルストーン）を初演し、高い評価を受けた。（同作品は、2008年3月、東京オペラシティコンサートホール開館10周年記念公演にて再演された）

2007年秋、「個典」を開催。

2009年4月、宮本益光作詞による合唱組曲「あしたのうた」が音楽之友社より出版された。

作品としては2012年≪福島復興・復活オペラプロジェクト≫作品「白虎」。（13年第11回佐川吉男音楽賞受賞。）2013年管弦楽曲「Legends in the Sky」、2014年連作歌曲「二本の木」(王子ホール委嘱作品)、2015年「地球をつつむ歌声」（2015年ＮＨＫ全国学校音楽コンクール小学校の部課題曲（作詞：日野原重明））など、オペラ、管弦楽、声楽、合唱曲など幅広く、作品に新しい息吹を吹き込む創意あふれる編曲にも定評がある。村治佳織、山形由美、宮本益光、奥村愛など多くのソリストに楽曲提供をしており、共演ピアニストとしても評価が高い。いわゆる「現代音楽」とは全く異なる視点で書かれた、美しく斬新な抒情性に満ちた作品は、多くの愛好者を持っている。独自の視点、切り口で企画する公演や講座などのプロデュース力にも注目を集めている。
